Hope In The Face of Suffering

For I don’t consider the sufferings of this present time to be worthy to compare with the glory that’s going to come. now 8:24 we were saved in hope.

Hope is what we’ve got. well hope is not a whole lot. Paul said in Romans 5, we read it together, you remember? He said, our hope, it doesn’t disappoint. Why is that? Because it’s based, not on how’s the economy, who is the president, how is our military strength.

It doesn’t depend on any of that. We don’t have to defeat entrenched evil right now. 1 Peter 1: 3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has begotten us again unto a living

living, vibrant, living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

So you, you this very minute, who are sucking for air.

You.

who are brokenhearted because your kids are hurting themselves and all. I know you know what I mean. I don’t know who you are, but I know you’re out there and you’re hurting because you love people.

And if the people you love are hurting, you’re hurting as well. So there you are. And Paul says, and then Peter, that we just quoted, said, you see the hope that we have? It’s not one of these, it’s not a wish at all. It’s hope, hope, not the word itself, L-peace.

That’s the word, but it’s not the word itself. It’s the context in which words are used. A word means what a speaker or a writer means it to mean. And you can say the word hope and you think, yes, hope is the eager expectation. Yeah, right. That’s true. Hope is a vibrant thing that in some people and maybe in you,

who are hurting terribly. It really works. I hope it does for you. I hope it does for you. Paul says we were saved in hope, but he goes on to say that which you hope for, you don’t already have. For who hopes for that which he sees fulfilled? No, no, we’re looking.

⁓ ahead. And what is ahead? Trouble!

live in this world? Trouble. For some more trouble than others. Nevertheless, I don’t care how healthy you are, we’re going to, unless the Lord comes and stops it right now, we’re going, watch me drop dead while I’m talking to you. Listen, listen. We’re going to die. I’m going to get old.

Older, I mean. I’m going to get feeble. I’m going to go out. Unless I have a car wreck, something like that. But I’m getting older and I’m feeling, but I’m going to. It happens. Our day is coming. Trouble ahead. Trouble currently. But it doesn’t have the last word.
