Paul in 9:6, having said that the whole Jewish people were given all those promises, and those people saying, well, if we were given all those promises and God has not given us those promises and we’re shut out, then God is not keeping his promises. That’s your gospel, for pity’s sake. And he says, no, it’s not as though the promises of God, the word of God is of none effect. They are not.
all Jacobites who descended from Jacob. They’re not all Israelites, as the text has it. They’re not all Israelites that are of Jacob, Israel. They’re not all Israelites because they descended from Israel.
What? They are not all Israelites because they have descended from Jacob, Israel.
Neither, he goes on to say, are they Abraham’s children just because they were born of the flesh of Abraham. What does he mean? They’re not all Israel, which have descended from Israel. He means that there’s a real Jew and a non-real Jew. There’s a true Israelite.
And a false Israelite. Paul will do that in Philippians and say, we, the Christians who believe in the Messiah, Jewish Christians who believe in the Messiah, he said, we are the true circumcision.
True member of the true circumcision is one who believes, who is not only circumcised as Abraham was, but who trusted God, submitted himself to God the way Abraham did. So when Paul says they’re not all Israel which are of Israel, he means there are Jews and Jews. There are
elect-Jews and non-elect.
More than that, he says in 9:7, where am I? There it is. Nor are they all children, because they are the seed of Abraham. Just because you’re the physical seed of Abraham doesn’t mean that you’re in.
He says, you remember the scripture, don’t you? It says this.
What does it say? It says, at this time I will come and Sarah will have a baby. I’m reading that and I can’t even read the verse. I can’t see the verse. I’m looking for it. I’ll get it to you in a minute. Yeah, there it is. It is nine. Nine, nine. He said, they’re not all Abraham’s children.
because they are the seed of Abraham. It’s only Abraham through Sarah.
