Now, the elect group in that whole section 9, 10, and 11 is not an election to whether you can be saved or not saved. It has to do with choosing who will be the line through whom the Messiah will come.
It’s a choice between the line of who will be the people of the Messiah. God rejected Melchizedek and chose Abraham. Melchizedek was a greater man, says the Hebrew writer, than Abraham. But God chose Abraham. God chose Isaac and not Ishmael.
God chose Jacob, but not Esau. All of these choices had to do with who would be the elect line.
