He has made the point that Israel are they rise out of the root of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Gentiles are arrogant. They’re getting haughty and conceited. And they’re saying it’s a true Gentile assembly, you see. And he wants the Gentiles to understand.
This is of the Jews. And for you to just think God has dumped the Jews is nonsense. Nonsense. And so he says, when they rejected Christ, it was evil. It was an evil they did. And God used the evil that they did to bring an end to that whole fleshly, you must be fleshly to be part of the elect.
God brought an end to that. He brought an end to the whole mosaic structure. And he opened the door for you, Gentiles. He used their Jewish evil to bring about your blessing. And that was a lovely thing that God did. But if you think God is done with the physical Jew, you’re dreaming. God loves them because he loves their fathers.
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Now then, note this, he says, the root that ⁓ produces then the tree, the Jewish tree, it supports you, Gentiles. It’s not you, Gentiles, that support the olive tree. No. And he said, the branches that have been and are broken off, they’re broken off.
Because of their unbelief. Wasn’t some kind of arbitrary decision about God. I think I’ll break off the bulk of the Jews. That nonsense. He said they were broken off because of their unbelief.
And you, who didn’t belong to them and the and the trunk and neighborhood and all of that, you were grafted in contrary to nature. If someone if a an agriculturalist or I don’t know what a tree man is, but if he saw someone take a ⁓ a branch from a wild olive tree and graft it on the ⁓ a cultivated one, he would think, that’s amazing, that’s astonishing, that is silly.
Contrary to nature, contrary to common sense, contrary to expectations. He says, the Gentiles, you were grafted in. Mm-hmm. He said, and they? He said, so remember, you you’re getting the benefit of their olive tree. And remember, the branches, the Jewish branches that were broken off, were broken off because they were unbelievers. God can graft them back in again if they come to faith.
That they continue not in unbelief, he says.
And ⁓ and you he said, if you continue in belief, things will be okay. But if you become like Jews and become unbelievers, he’ll break you off as well. So it’s a it’s a faith issue. The real Jew and the real Christian, Gentile as well, you see, the real Christian is one who trusts in God through the Lord Jesus Christ.
He says that to people who should have remembered in Romans 6 were baptized into union with Jesus, the Jewish Messiah, for pity’s sake. And they shared in the meaning and the blessings of his death and his resurrection.
